What is an Ogham?
Ogham is an early Irish alphabet used between the 4th and 7th centuries. Often called the “tree alphabet”, its letters are made up of simple lines and marks, carved veritcally into stone monuments to mark names, graves, or boundaries. The alphabet contains 20 characters that are typically written from bottom to top along a center line. Today, Ogham remains a unique and meaningful part of Irish history, with around 400 original stone carvings still found—mainly in Ireland.
